How to enrich grog?
Besides the classic version made with rum, lemon, and spices, there are many Grog variations you can try. Some add honey or maple syrup for a touch of sweetness, while others replace the rum with whiskey or brandy to create new flavor profiles.
How did grog come about?
Originally created as a remedy for sailors to give a pleasant taste to the smelly drinking water contained in barrels during voyages and to combat the cold and bad weather, this alcoholic delicacy quickly spread throughout the world as a traditional and popular drink.
The history of grog dates back to the 18th century, when British Admiral Edward Vernon ordered sailors to dilute their rum with water and lemon juice to combat scurvy. This drink proved so popular that it became known as "grog" in honor of the admiral. Over the years, grog has been enriched with spices such as cloves and cinnamon, which have enhanced its flavor and warming properties.
