Tacos have ancient origins that date back to the pre-Columbian civilizations of Mexico . The Aztecs used corn tortillas to wrap meat, fish and vegetables, creating a sort of natural and practical "sandwich". The term " taco " probably derives from an 18th-century mining custom, in which small charges of gunpowder wrapped in paper were called just that: "tacos". Today, tacos are one of the iconic dishes of Mexico , loved throughout the world for their variety and their unmistakable flavor.
