Since ancient times, salt and spices, including pepper, were highly valued because they were rare and expensive, and salt shakers were large because they expressed the owner's status. In the 17th century, multi-compartment containers for salt, pepper, and other spices were created. However, contact with air quickly alters these products. That is why Bembo has designed transparent glass salt and pepper sets to admire the colors of their contents, but almost completely sealed to minimize air contact.
