Samosas

Samosas are a classic Indian street food , appreciated all over the world for their crispy exterior and soft and spicy filling . They are fried or baked triangles of dough , usually filled with potatoes, peas, onions and a mix of spices that varies depending on the region. Making them at home is easier than you think and will allow you to enjoy an authentic and personalized dish .

Ingredients for 4 people

For the dough:

  • 250 g of 00 flour
  • 100 ml of water
  • 50 ml of vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

How to make samosas

  1. Prepare the filling: Boil the potatoes until soft. In a pan, fry the chopped onion and garlic, add the ginger, chili pepper and spices. Add the mashed potatoes, peas and cook until smooth.
  2. Make the dough: In a bowl, mix the flour, salt, oil and water until you get a smooth dough. Let it rest for 30 minutes.
  3. Shape the samosas: Roll out the dough thinly and cut into discs. Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each disc and fold over into a triangle, moistening the edges to seal.
  4. Fry or bake: Fry the samosas in plenty of hot oil until golden brown, or bake them in a preheated oven at 200°C for about 20 minutes.

Samosas have ancient origins and are present in many Asian cuisines , with regional variations. In India , they are considered a popular food and are consumed on various occasions, from religious festivals to street snacks. The triangular shape of samosas symbolizes the Hindu trinity and the filling varies according to local traditions and availability.
