Shakshuka

Shakshuka is a colorful and flavorful dish originating from North Africa , but very popular in Israel . It consists of fried eggs , cooked in a sauce of tomatoes , peppers, onions and spices. The combination of sweet, sour and spicy flavors makes shakshuka a unique and irresistible dish .

Ingredients for 4 people

  • 4 eggs
  • 2 coppery tomatoes
  • 1 red onion
  • 1 red pepper
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh coriander

    How to make shakshuka original recipe

     

  • Make the sauce: In a large pan, heat the oil and sauté the finely chopped onion and crushed garlic.
  • Add the vegetables: Add the pepper cut into strips and the tomatoes cut into cubes. Cook for about 10 minutes, until the vegetables are softened.
  • Season: Add paprika, cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper. Mix well.
  • Make the nests: Create small hollows in the sauce and break the eggs inside.
  • Cook: Cover the pan with a lid and cook over medium-low heat for about 10-12 minutes, or until the egg whites are set and the yolks are still soft.
  • Serve: Garnish with chopped fresh cilantro and serve warm with fresh bread for dipping.
