Pain d'Épices is a mixture of spices created to flavor desserts, biscuits, bread, panne cotta, puddings and desserts in general. She is originally from the town of Colmar, the capital of Alsace, also known as the capital of Alsatian wine production. The origins of this sweet mixture are lost in the mists of time: the Greeks and Romans used to make sweet breads flavored with honey, but the most ancient ancestor of Pain d'Épices is found in a honey bread flavored with herbs and used as rations by Chinese army around 1100 AD
In the Kitchen : Obviously, the main use of this mixture is in the preparation of the traditional French dessert, similar to a very spicy, soft and fragrant sweet bread, which is often enjoyed during the Christmas holidays. Added to the dough or to the filling of desserts, it is useful for giving a spicy touch, and can also transform cooked fruit into a refined dessert.
