Ras el Hanout is a very particular blend of around 30 types of spices. The name means "shop head" in Arabic, indicating that it is the best spice mix a merchant can offer. This mixture can be produced only and exclusively by a cooking master from the country of origin, i.e. Morocco.
In the Kitchen : Traditionally, this spice finds application in slow preparations such as tajine and couscous, where its aromatic notes have time to develop and enrich the ingredients. It is also common to use ras el hanout in marinades for meat, poultry or fish, allowing the spices to blend with the proteins. Used in cooking water, it colors and adds an exotic touch to rice.
